Great news for local service as Newark and Sherwood Careline expands

Posted on: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Newark and Sherwood District Council is excited to announce the ongoing success and expansion of its Careline service, which now offers vital support to customers both within and outside the district, enabling more people to live independently in their own homes. The Careline service provides 24/7 assistance, 365 days a year, by simply pressing a button.

Also known as a Lifeline service, Careline is always there to answer a call if needed and provides peace of mind for customers and their family and friends.

The Careline service now extends beyond the Newark and Sherwood borders to Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Gedling, and Mansfield. The number of private customers has increased by 123% since September 2023 with more expected as they continue to expand into neighbouring districts.

Despite the increased volume of customers and calls, the Careline service has maintained exceptional response times, consistently achieving almost 99% of calls answered within 60 seconds, surpassing the industry standard of 97.5%.

One customer said: “A massive thank you to the team for my Dad’s Careline service. He had a fall recently; he pressed his emergency button and within hours had been taken into hospital by ambulance.

“He is now home and continues to improve. He’s in his 90’s and without this service I am in no doubt he would not have survived or managed to call for help.”

The service includes an alarm unit with a pendant connected to a monitoring centre, which monitors alarms 24/7. When the alarm is activated, the monitoring centre will take the most appropriate action based on the information provided at that time and any known information about the user.

The service is particularly useful to older residents or anyone with mobility issues.

Councillor Lee Brazier, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Our aim is to ensure more residents can benefit from this fantastic service supporting them to live independently in their homes. This is a genuine life saver to so many and we’re keen to see it grow and support more people.

“With this latest intake of more customers, we can invest in advertising the scheme, so more people are aware of the benefits of the service. Our response times for the service is excellent and there’s no minimum contract length and no exit fees so if it isn’t for you, you can just cancel!”
