The Newark and Sherwood District Council managed lorry park has been awarded the prestigious Park Mark Freight Award following an assessment by the Police Crime Prevention Initiative and the British Parking Association. The award is only given to the highest quality lorry park operators across the UK.

To be granted the Park Mark Freight Award, a parking facility must demonstrate that it exceeds in a number of areas including measures to enhance the safety of people and vehicles, a low crime rate, good management and operations, and exemplary customer service.

The award was given to the District Council due to its hard work and dedication in providing a safe environment for its users and through careful management of the site.  The site is fully secured with fencing, gates and 24/7 CCTV to keep drivers and their vehicles safe. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) controlled barriers help the District Council to achieve a high level of security.

The District Council’s Lorry Park is the first of its type, in not only in Nottinghamshire, but also in the East Midlands, to win the award.

Councillor Rhona Holloway, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Visitors at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Our team work hard to ensure Newark Lorry Park is secure and safe for all drivers who use the facility, and this award is recognition of that effective management, dedication, and hard work. I am proud of the team who work tirelessly to not only maintain effective management but also seek to continually make improvements for the benefit of users. Ensuring the safety of vehicles when parked at any one of our parking sites remains one of our top priorities.”

Lorry parks with the Park Mark Freight Award can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark tick so that drivers and hauliers know exactly where to go for safer parking.
