Local good causes are benefiting from an extra cash injection of £500 each thanks to the Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery Raffle.

Bilsthorpe Emergency Team, Sherwood Archers, Newark R&M Cricket Club, Newark Breast Cancer Support Group, Newark Brazil FC and Newark and District Community 1st Responders were all picked at random from more than 60 groups. Winners were announced at a live event hosted by Newark and Sherwood District Council on their Facebook page on Thursday 8 December.

The funds distributed through the draw are generated by players of Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery who opted to donate the income from their ticket sale to ‘Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery Central Fund’, rather than one particular good cause.

Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Recent months, more than ever, have proven the vital role that charities, voluntary and community groups play in supporting people, communities and shaping places.

“The Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery enables charities to raise funds while ensuring financial support for a sector that is closest to our communities and their needs. The addition of the prize draw is another exciting opportunity for the District Council to support community lottery registered organisations raise vital funds for their good causes.

“I encourage any good cause in the district to sign up to the Community Lottery for free today and take advantage of the rewards on offer.”
