Newark Showground Vaccination Centre to close after delivering over 100,000 jabs

After delivering over 100,000 vaccine doses since opening its doors, the Vaccination Centre at Newark Showground will be closing on Friday 10 September at 1:30pm.

As over 80% of all adults across the district have now had both doses of vaccine, the vaccination programme will be moving into a new phase which will see local pharmacies and GP surgeries taking more of a role.

The site at Newark Showground has been central to the vaccination programme in Newark and Sherwood. As one of the first sites to open up this year, the Showground offered a way to help protect residents without having to travel to Nottingham or Mansfield for their jabs.

It has been important to make sure that everyone who wants the vaccine in Newark and Sherwood could do so easily. The pop up clinics and vaccination bus working alongside the main site at the Showground have helped achieve good rates of take up.

“Getting your vaccine is down to personal choice, so it is particularly heartening to see so many of our residents protecting themselves, their friends and families by getting the vaccine,” said Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, “I firmly believe that the vaccination programme is central to getting back to normal day to day business. As we learn to live with COVID-19 going forward such a strong take up is a firm foundation for us to build on.”

Anyone who has not had their first dose or is waiting for their second one can still ‘Grab a Jab’ at the other sites around the district. The vaccination bus will be coming to the Beacon and Bridge wards, near Newark town centre on 14 September with no appointments needed. Boots in Newark, the Life Centre in Ollerton and the Riverside Church in Southwell will also be offering walk-in appointments for COVID-19 vaccines. Residents can find a site near them by visiting the NHS website at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/find-a-walk-in-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-site/
