Winter Focus Week in Balderton

An intensive program to help make Balderton cleaner, safer, and greener was undertaken last week by the District Council’s Street Scene team.

The team conducted a Winter Focus Week between Monday 5 December to Friday 9 December, dedicating their time and resources to tackling problem areas and performing maintenance work in the area.

The jam-packed program of improvements and maintenance included:

  • Ten new street litter bins fitted
  • Two public walkways cleared of overgrown vegetation on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council
  • Nine areas of street graffiti cleared
  • Garage areas deep cleansed
  • Various road and paths swept of detritus and leaves
  • Litter picking of surrounding rural road verges
  • Play equipment deep cleansed at Grove Street, Clipsham Close, Mead Way and Southfields play areas
  • Shrubbery and hedging were pruned across parks, open spaces and communal greens

The Street Scene team was also joined by officers from the Environmental Enforcement team, who issued three fixed penalty notices (FPN) for littering and another FPN for fly-tipping.

Councillor Roger Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Cleaner, Safer, Greener, at Newark and Sherwood District Council said: “Our environmental services teams play an integral role in creating a Cleaner, Safer and Greener district for us all to be proud of, and their hard work does not go unnoticed.

“Weeks such as this allow the team to focus their efforts on clean ups in particular problem areas, which are identified not only by the team but also by our residents. We must all do our bit to help, and I encourage residents to work as our eyes and ears around the community, in order to report those who continue to blight our district.”

The District Council’s Street Scene team work tirelessly to keep our district looking beautiful and free of any waste or vandalism. Work they complete can include the removal of litter, dead animals, fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles, graffiti, fly-posting and syringes.

The District Council encourages residents to help where they can by reporting areas where they spot issues such as littering, graffiti or any other environmental offences.
