A new consultation is being launched to seek local opinions on solar energy and inform the development of a new Supplementary Planning Document, a draft of which was discussed at this week’s Newark and Sherwood District Council Cabinet Meeting. Once finalised, this document will become part of the Council’s Local Development Framework and be used to help determine future planning applications.

Archaeology work in Newark has identified Medieval features including walls, wells, enclosure boundaries and pits, one of which contained a fully intact horse burial.  Other discoveries include roof tiles, pottery, metalwork, and animal bones. These are just some of the amazing finds discovered by archaeologists as part of the redevelopment at 32 Stodman Street.

At Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, councillors confirmed their support for a Motion made last week by Councillor Paul Taylor which will see the District Council lobby local MPs, East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward and the Government for support, both financial and in reviewing and developing regulations and legislation.

Newark has had a vibrant makeover in the past week as brightly coloured sculptures of benches shaped like books have been installed around the town. These are part of a project by Newark Creates, a cultural programme led by Newark Cultural Consortium with Inspire Culture, Learning and Libraries and Newark and Sherwood District Council as main partners. The programme is funded by Newark Heart and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which is providing £2.6 billion of new funding to local authorities to invest in unique opportunities within their district.
