Help shape your local community

Following feedback from tenants, Newark and Sherwood District Council is springing into action and considering the shape of tenant engagement going forward.  This ‘Local Influence Network’ has been set up by Newark and Sherwood District Council’s tenant engagement team and is an opportunity for tenants to speak to one another and share their views on their local community with District Council officers.

There are three specific networks for our district, one for Newark, one for Sherwood and a third for all rural locations.   Local Influence Network meetings will take place every few months. There are, already a number of willing tenants wishing to take part but more are being encouraged to join and feedback their views to help shape and improve local areas.

Tenants can get involved in many engagement opportunities, this includes policy reviews, mystery shopping, estate walkabouts and much more.

The creation of these Local influence networks began after tenants often expressed a desire to get involved on a local level and provide feedback and expertise on the area they live in and the District Council thought this a fantastic idea to form part of their engagement and consultation work with tenants and residents.

The launch event for Sherwood was held earlier this month but you can get involved at any time by emailing Getinvolved@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.

The launch of the Newark network takes place on Thursday 31 March from 5pm until 6.30pm at the Cleveland Square Community Centre in Newark. The launch of the rural network takes place on Thursday 28 April from 5pm until 6.30pm at the Leys Community Centre in Lowdham.

Free light refreshments will provided at all events and tenants are asked to email Getinvolved@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk to join.

Councillor Tim Wendels, Chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Homes and Communities Committee, said: “By launching these new networks we’re giving our tenants another avenue to give us their feedback. We’re always looking at ways we can improve our housing service and we can do this by listening to the views of our tenants.

“I would encourage any tenant interested in shaping our service for the better to get involved and help us by joining these events. We really value your feedback and want to know what you think of our service good or bad.”
