Palace Theatre Gets a Summer Spruce-Up Ahead of Exciting Autumn/Winter Season
Posted on: Friday, August 15, 2025As the leaves begin to turn and the nights draw in, the Palace Theatre in Newark is preparing to welcome audiences back with a refreshed look and a packed programme of entertainment. Over the summer months, the beloved venue on Appleton Gate has been undergoing a seasonal spruce-up to ensure it’s looking its best for the upcoming autumn and winter shows.
Visitors to the theatre may have noticed scaffolding on the exterior of the building, part of a repainting project designed to freshen up the theatre’s iconic façade. Behind the scenes, the backstage areas are also receiving a makeover, with redecoration works helping to create a welcoming and professional environment for the many artists, comedians, dancers, and performers set to grace the stage in the coming months.
These improvements are part of a wider, ongoing refurbishment scheme aimed at preserving the historic venue and ensuring it remains a safe, vibrant, and inspiring space for generations to come. More upgrades are planned, all with the goal of enhancing the experience for both audiences and performers alike.
The Palace Theatre’s autumn/winter programme is already shaping up to be a showstopper, from gripping drama and side-splitting comedy, to dazzling dance and heartwarming festive favourites.
Music fans are in for a treat with a stellar line-up of tribute acts and live performances, including FastLove – The Tribute to George Michael, Magic of Motown, Totally Tina, and Thank ABBA For The Music. These shows bring the energy and nostalgia of legendary artists to life on the Palace stage.
Comedy takes centre stage with The Comedy Store and appearances from top names like Andy Parsons, whose sharp wit and timely humour are sure to delight, and Dr John Cooper Clarke, the iconic punk poet whose spoken word performances are both thought-provoking and hilarious.
Dance enthusiasts can enjoy the elegance of Swan Lake and the fiery Vincent Simone’s Tango Passions, while special events like An Evening With Nottingham Forest Legends and Alex Jennings In Conversation offer unique insights and memorable moments.
To bring in the wonderful festive period is the winter classic A Christmas Carol, with the Palace Theatre audience ready to be enchanted once again by this year’s magical pantomime, Beauty and the Beast.
Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “we’re so excited to welcome audiences to the Palace Theatre for what will be a brilliant season of delightful shows. We’re privileged to have such a beautiful theatre on our doorstep that boasts such an impressive programme of performances to suit everyone’s tastes. There’s no better way to spend the cosy months and festive season than at a wonderful show with family and friends!”
