Musicians Take Over Vicar Water Country Park for One Day Only Musical Experience

Posted on: Tuesday, July 29, 2025

There is just a week until Musicwalks, a free, one-day musical experience for visitors of all ages.

Taking place on Tuesday 5 August 2025, visitors are invited to search for musicians scattered around Vicar Water Country Park. Running from 10.30am to 12.15pm and 1pm to 3pm, visitors have the option of taking a leisurely stroll with a Musicwalks sound guide or using a map to explore the park at their own pace.

When discovered, the musicians will play a tune and share what they love about their instruments. Along with listening out for the musicians, participants are encouraged to embrace to the sounds of nature during their journey, gaining a new appreciation for their surroundings.

Musicwalks is a collaboration between Nottingham-based music charity Musicworks and Open Doors, a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England and delivered by Newark and Sherwood District Council. Musicworks promotes all forms of music, supports musicians, and runs a range of projects. Open Doors is a programme of arts activity that increases creative opportunities and delivers a variety of projects for young people and under-served groups.

“We hope people will take time to slow down and absorb the sounds around them,” said Musicworks’ Creative Director John Osborne. “It’s not a sprint or a race to see who can find the musicians first but about taking time and interacting with the world around us.”

“The musicians will play pieces they hope mean something to the audience,” he continued. “Visitors might even get the chance to play some of the instruments and learn how to make some of the sounds themselves. For many of the participants, this may be their first opportunity to get up close to a musical instrument, to understand how they work and what they do.”

Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture, and the Arts, said of the event: “This is a unique way for people across the district to experience the joy of music. The impact of both music and nature on wellbeing is long established, and Vicar Water Country Park is the perfect setting to bring the two together.”
