Newark and Sherwood District Council Launches Call for Sites to Shape Future Growth
Posted on: Thursday, June 26, 2025Newark and Sherwood District Council is inviting residents, landowners, and developers, to suggest land that could be used for new homes, jobs, green spaces, or community facilities.
This “Call for Sites” is part of the Council’s work to prepare a new Local Plan, which sets out how the area will grow and develop over the coming years.
The District Council is asking for suggestions of land that might be suitable for development or other uses. These could include sites for housing including affordable housing and the Gypsy Roma Traveller community, areas for business or employment, or even land that could be developed for community facilities or recreation. While not every site submitted will be taken forward, each one will be carefully assessed to see if it could help meet the needs of local communities now and in the future.
Councillor Claire Penny, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Development of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: "This is a real opportunity for everyone in our district to put forward potential development sites. We’re committed to making sure that future development works for our communities — that it’s in the right places, meets the right needs, and helps make Newark and Sherwood an even better place to live. To do that we need to know what sites are available for development"
"We know that planning can sometimes feel distant or complicated, but by getting involved now, you can help us plan for the homes, jobs, and services that our communities will need in the years ahead. I encourage everyone who thinks they have a site to take a look at the information online and consider making a submission."
Submissions can be made through the Council’s interactive website, which includes maps and guidance to help people understand what’s involved. The Call for Sites is open until Tuesday 16 September 2025. To find out more and take part, visit: https://newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/shelaa/
