Posted on: Friday, June 20, 2025

Newark and Sherwood District Council, in partnership with the Lincoln College Group, is proud to announce the return of the Future First Careers Expo on Thursday 13 November 2025 at the Lady Eastwood Centre at Newark Showground.

Now in its eighth year, the Expo continues to be a cornerstone event for students in Years 11 to 13 across the district and Lincolnshire, offering them a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of career and educational pathways. Each year, 6 to 8 schools from Newark and Sherwood and 2 from Lincolnshire take part, reflecting the event’s strong regional reach. Last year, the Expo welcomed over 1,300 students, highlighting its growing impact and popularity.

With over 50 exhibitors expected, including local and national businesses, training providers, and further and higher education institutions, the Expo is designed to help young people make informed decisions about their futures. The event provides a relaxed yet informative setting where students can ask questions, gain advice, and discover the many opportunities available to them. From apprenticeships to university courses and beyond, the event introduces students to the world of work — from familiar roles to careers they may never have considered.

Local businesses are invited to take part as exhibitors and play a vital role in shaping the aspirations of the region’s future workforce. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with young talent, showcase your industry, and inspire the next generation.

The deadline to register as an exhibitor is Friday 5 September 2025. For more information or to book your space, please contact Veronica Dennant, Senior Lead for Business and Skills, at veronica.dennant@newarkandsherwooddistrictcouncil.org.uk

Students will attend the Expo with their schools throughout the day, but students and their parents are also invited to drop in independently to explore the opportunities available and speak directly with exhibitors.

Councillor Claire Penny, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Development at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The Future First Careers Expo is one of the most impactful events we host each year. It brings together education and industry in a way that truly benefits our young people, giving them the tools and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures. The feedback we receive from students and teachers alike is overwhelmingly positive, and it’s clear that the Expo is making a real difference.

“We are calling on local businesses to get involved and help us continue this important work. By exhibiting at the Expo, you’re not only showcasing your organisation but also investing in the future of our community. It’s a chance to inspire, to guide, and to be part of something that genuinely changes lives. Please do get in touch with our team if you are interested in being involved.”

The Future First Careers Expo was established to empower students with a clear understanding of the wide range of opportunities available to them after school—and to help them map out a path to future success. In recent years, Future First has played an increasingly important role in addressing social mobility challenges faced by young people in the district. A young person’s socio-economic background can still significantly influence the opportunities they can access. By showcasing real-world career pathways and making them feel achievable, the Expo helps turn possibility into reality.
