Severe Weather Emergency Protocol is active
Posted on: Wednesday, November 19, 2025Due to the ongoing severe weather forecast, Newark and Sherwood District Council has activated the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) and will remain in effect for a number of days. We are continuously monitoring and assessing the weather conditions on a daily basis.
SWEP is a provision the Council puts in place during times of severe weather (e.g. cold temperatures, flooding or extreme heat) to support those sleeping rough to provide them with temporary safe space.
We urge anyone who is aware of individuals sleeping rough to direct them to contact Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Housing Options Team. Assistance can be accessed by calling 01636 650 000. For calls made outside of regular hours, please select Option 4.
Our commitment is to ensure that anyone identified as sleeping rough will be provided with suitable accommodation.
