Severe Weather Emergency Protocol is active

Posted on: Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Due to the ongoing severe weather forecast, we have activated the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP). This will remain in effect until Friday morning (20 February) as we continuously monitor and assess the weather conditions.

SWEP provides temporary safe space for those sleeping rough during extreme weather events such as cold temperatures, flooding, or extreme heat.

If you know someone who is sleeping rough, please direct them to contact Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Housing Options Team by calling 01636 650 000. For calls made outside of regular hours, please select Option 4.

We are committed to providing a dry, safe space for rough sleepers for the duration of the severe weather.
