Continued praise for District Council

An independent Corporate Peer Review has concluded that Newark and Sherwood District Council continues to deliver good services and focuses strongly on customer service and has been praised as positive, supportive and welcoming, despite increases in demand for its vital services.

Four senior local government Councillors and Officers from other authorities across the UK formed a Corporate Peer Review team and undertook a progress review of the District Council in December 2025. This follows a robust and extensive review in October 2024. The original review stated that “the Leader and Chief Executive were judged to be held in high regard internally and externally and both are viewed as effective. Staff and councillors are clearly committed to serving communities in the district, recognising differing needs in different places.”

Fast forward 14 months and the independent review concluded that the Council is still demonstrating a positive, supportive and welcoming culture, with staff going the extra mile to support the communities they serve.

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council explains more, “We are an ambitious Council, committed to serving our residents well and it is important to take stock to review what we are doing to ensure we are doing the very best for our communities.  We therefore invited the Local Government Association to complete a peer review at the District Council in 2024, and we invited them back to do a follow up review in December 2025 to check on our progress.

“We are pleased the review highlights that we are still progressing well and it is extremely satisfying, and humbling, to receive such overwhelmingly positive feedback.

“I hope that residents will be reassured that we really are a Council who strives to deliver the very best for the residents we serve.  We have a passionate and dedicated workforce, this being one of the clearest messages throughout the report.”
